1.
Don’t panic.
More than
ever before, it’s important not to panic. Remain calm even when cash is running
out. This will ensure that you avoid making drastic decisions. If you run out
of emotional support, don’t hesitate to ask for help.
2. Tap into resources provided by government and
financial institutions.
The
government has set up various initiatives to support small business owners. A
few banks have also come up with various initiatives. It’s important to be on
the look out for these kind of initiatives and take advantage of them.
3.
Develop a three-month financial plan
The major
expenses for most small businesses include employee salaries, office rent and
utility bills. It’s important to pay attention to the critical things you spend
money on and make a realistic decision on how to control and cut your spending
for the next three months. You may want to speak to a finance expert to guide
you with this.
You could
perhaps freeze hiring any more full-time employees, and instead work on a
project basis with freelancers. You could also consider downsizing your office,
and using a co-working space to have more affordable and flexible payment
terms.
4.
Find opportunities
This
season may look very bleak but there are still opportunities that small
businesses can tap into. Will your current business model survive the changes
that will come from the COVID-19 pandemic? It’s important to look for new
ways to connect with your customers as well as reach out to new customers.
