FIVE UNDENIABLE FACTS THAT THE WORLD IS GETTING BETTER

When the news is screaming bloody murder

When the news is screaming bloody murder in our brains, and our social media feeds are full of people disagreeing with each other in the vilest manner possible, it’s hard to believe that things are peachy right now.

But, well, when you take a step back and look at the grand picture — they are. With the help of the always awesome Deefrent research team, we present to you a handful of reasons why this tiny blue planet of ours isn’t all that bad. Here are just five important undeniable facts that the world is indeed getting better.

1, we’re getting Smarter: Average IQ scores have risen 24 points since 1914. Test markers constantly have to read just IQ test to account for the fact that each generation of children is smarter than any that came before. It’s called the Flynn effect and it says that kids are doing way better on harder tests.

2.               The Ozone Layer is making a Recovery: a new assessment by 300m scientists indicate that the ozone layer is well on track to recovery in the next few decades. The ozone layer is expected to recover to 1980 benchmark levels (the time before significant Ozone layer depletion) before the middle of the century in mid-latitudes and the Arctic and somewhat later in the Antarctic.

3.     We’re living longer: Although most babies born in 1900 didn’t live past age 50 life expectancy at birth now exceeds 83 years in japan and is at least 81 years in several other countries.

4.     Renewables now produce 22% of the world’s Electricity: That number puts renewable electricity generation from wind, solar, and hydro on par with that of natural gas.

5.     Scientists may have found a way to slow down Aging: A team of researchers has identified a gene that could be used to stave off senescence- the decline in the body’s ability to fight diseases that come with aging and found a way to remotely activate that gene.
