Sickle Cell Awareness 2020-The Panagora Blog(Health)

Its the Sickle cell awareness week. The causes of Sickle cell in the body is the Sickle cell anemia which doesn't have enough healthy red blood cells to carry oxygen throughout the body.

Sickle Cell anaemia has no cure.

People with this disease live their lives with episodes of pain in their chest, abdomen, joints, bones. The pain varies from mild to moderate to severe and can last for a few hours to a few weeks. Some have the pain crisis a few times in a year, others have a lot more crisis episodes in a year. Some require more frequent hospital admissions due to the severity.

No child deserves to live with these symptoms including low blood levels, swelling of hands and feet, frequent infections et.c

How can we avoid it?
Before you go into a relationship, endeavor to ask the person what their Genotype is.

The following genotypes can have children together:
AA + AA
AA + AS
AA + SS
AA + SC
AA + CC

These genotypes below SHOULD NOT HAVE CHILDREN TOGETHER:
AS + AS
SS + SS
AS + SC
AS + CC
