NEGOTIATION & PERSUASION SKILLS Negotiation is a process that can be used to address and resolve disagreements between people, and find common ground. It also discusses the importance of attitudes, knowledge and interpersonal skills in conducting a successful negotiation. WHY IS NEGOTIATING IMPORTANT? 1. Greater customer satisfaction 2. Increased employer satisfaction 3. Higher levels of productivity 4. Fewer mistakes 5. Greater innovation and creativity SKILLS TO BE CONSIDERED 1. EMPATH: is when someone with a need has been understood by another. The listener needs to understand the thoughts, beliefs and feelings of the speaker. 2. SYMPATHY: to feel the same way, you have to put yourself in the person’s position 3. EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE 4. LISTENING: you have to be a good listener by following this procedure • Don’t interrupt • Don’t finish other people’s sentences • Don’t talk over the other person 5.
